YAC Visits George Waters Middle School
I always enjoy visiting George Waters Middle School in Winnipeg because Bruce Park is just a stone's throw away and I fished the Assiniboine River from the shores there in my youth. It is also helpful during my presentation to point to where fish live. I think strengthening those connections helps facilitate a better understanding of how a student's day can impact what's downstream.
These presentations were hosted by Mr. Schmidt and they included two of his Grade 8 Language Arts classes. There was great discussion as many students were avid anglers. Other students had interests in science and the environment, and we talked about how this relates to the life of the freshwater drum. We spent time crafting our paragraphs for the artwork contest entry. Of course by the end, all the students who said they were horrible artists produced works that could be top contenders. Best of luck and many thanks.
